Remember the CF Moto I sold back in
May
? Well apparently I’m not done with it yet!!
An hour or so ago I suggested that the new owner of a Honda Helix clone vent his crankcase outside. Not before I could even close my Facebook window, the Helix scrapper guy that bought my CF Moto chimed in asking me what I meant.
I explained in the post that once I got the scooter running again the crank had a thing for spewing milky oil into the airbox. My research said condensation can cause that and an easy remedy is venting the crank outside. Then run the engine to running temperature for a while. So I vented the crank outside and kept riding.
Eventually the smoking just went away and the crank stopped venting, so I figured the scoot finally blew out all the condensation and I finally had the carb tuned properly. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I also proved it by starting the engine for the Helix scrapper when he got there. It was a little tappety (valves too tight) but it ran fine.
Apparently when the scrapper started the engine at home, it smoked. He then discovered the oil in the airbox. So now he’s saying I scammed him and the head’s blown.
Alright, I should have done better to clean up the airbox. I could have also told him the crank spit milky oil once . But based on my research, I figured that was common enough on Chinese scoots that it wasn’t even worthy of a mention, especially if it ran fine . And based on the information I had and the scooter’s own performance, everything was good. I can’t tell him why it smoked when he got it home. Rode and ran great for me and I even showed him the engine didn’t smoke.
I mean, he’s selling the wheels for the $200 price he paid alone (looks like his side hustle is selling Honda Helix parts)...wheels that aren’t even Honda originals. So he’ll profit on this thing, easily. I wonder if he tells people which parts are Chinese clones and which are Honda original? Sounds like shop-teacher had a run-in with this guy when he was selling his Helix.
And on accusing me of scamming him just to get a buck, I’m sorry. That wasn’t my intention. I was selling a running and riding scooter without a title for $400. That’s it. If I wanted to scam him, I would have told him $400 firm, but I took a bath on this stupid thing.
I told him the scooter the scooter died twice under my ownership, what I did to revive it, and that it’s still not 100%. But to the best of my knowledge, it was in good condition. I then started the engine to demonstrate that it was healthy. His response was “oh I don’t care, this thing isn’t going to ride ever again”. But now I’m a scammer.
Alright...so another change, too many people that hate me know my address. Every bike I sell from here on out will be at public places.

Yeah, quite a few police departments have established public trading zones that are at or near stations under have cameras.

“Apparently when the scrapper started the engine at home, it smoked. He then discovered the oil in the airbox. So now he’s saying I scammed him and the head’s blown.”
He should have checked that BEFORE buying. It’s not like you were asking top dollar for it.
My response would be exactly that... followed with “if you have an issue, go grab a tissue... while you re-reated
sales contract stating it was being sold as-is with no warranty”

Yep, as my local department has as well. The good thing is that the buyers don’t know my real address (just the building number and the building itself is a confusing labyrinth ) , but almost all of them know which vehicles are mine.
Still, moving forward I’m not dealing with people anywhere near home. FB Marketplace is great at getting bikes sold fast, but my selling experiences haven’t gotten much better.

Screw ‘em. It sounds like you were up front and honest about everything, and if the guy says it smoked as soon as he got it home and it took him this long to tell you about it that’s on him. Sounds like the guy is a bit of cheapskate anyway. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’m not too worried. He doesn’t seem like the “find you and mess with your shit” type like that one other guy was. It’s just...holy crap the conversation went south fast. At least I learned a valuable lesson about selling stuff!

People get bent over a $400 sale? There are better things to do than argue with them, like flossing or taking out the garbage.

Even worse than that. I had it listed for $400, sold it to him for $200. He’s selling the wheels alone for the price he paid.
But he tried paying $100 for shop-teacher’s real Helix, so I’m guessing that’s why he’s calling me a scammer, because he didn’t get to offer me less money?
And no worries...I exited the convo the instant I realized he wasn’t going to see my side of things. lol

Lot of people who don’t understand that when you buy something as-is (especially dirt-cheap with known issues) you are taking a chance. If they aren’t comfortable with that they either need to buy something with a warranty, or get it inspected by a pro (though I can’t imagine anyone wants to spend a bunch of money getting a cheap bike checked out).

Oh f uck that guy! He’s a total asshole who tries to pass off Chinese knock off parts as the real deal. Since we talked about him, o ne of my parts buyers told me about a run- in with him as well. Fortunately the guy figured out they weren’t real Honda parts before he gave him any money.
Did you sell the DT yet?

Oh damn! I was curious if he was upfront about the parts he sells. I mean, as much as I like the Chinese motorcycle industry there is still a clear difference in quality. And with the prices he charges I would hope they are legit! The wheels for my CF Moto are up for $200, so he’s being mad about a scooter he’ll profit on without any trouble.
I did! I think the coil went bad because it had no spark. Only lost $100 on it which works with me since it needed more than $100 of stuff to be road ready again . :)

The overt speaks loudest through accusation. Liars are the first ones to accuse other people of ly ing. They assume everyone else is lying to them, because that’s what they are doing.
Good! I wish I could have bought it ... Well I probably COULD have, but I didn't feel like pushing the issue with the Mrs.

I do not! Sadly, while learning how to shoot is on my bucket list, I still don’t trust myself with owning a gun. If life spirals out of control again a gun could be an easy out...
So I instead I’ve learned self-protection and always carry things to help me like mace and/or objects that can be used as hand weapons.
I may have exaggerated that address a bit. The few enemies I’ve made know what building I live in , but they’re not likely to find my condo . Still too close for comfort.

If i am selling a thing on cl or offer up, i will try to arrange a meeting at the local auto parts store, or if late at night, the 24/7 gas convenience store
